AREA 21 + action is being implemented in four locations across the Baltic Sea Region. The selected urban areas serve as model districts for pilot interventions. They represent test fields for identifying, designing and implementing ways to increase energy efficiency in the existing building stock. The project investigates the urban district as an integrated energy system, comprising technical infrastructure, local communities of energy consumers, (potential) energy producers, and partners in energy planning. The focus lies in existing housing districts characterised by the presence of both public and private buildings.
